Set in the experimental township of Auroville<\/a> in Pondicherry, India, is the Auroville Film Festival \u2013 an effort to “connect with people and cultures within and beyond Auroville and to further the aspiration of human unity by showcasing films that develop this theme”. Organised by the Auroville\u2019s Multimedia Centre<\/a> since 2009, the festival is held every two years at the local Town Hall, and features both international films as well as those created in and around Auroville. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By including masterclasses and workshops as part of the programme, the festival hopes to turn film viewing in Auroville, a relatively passive activity, into a creative expression. Screenings are often complemented by interviews with the directors. The festival hosts films in two categories \u2013 the international and the Aurovilians category (made by Aurovilians and residents of the bioregion). They are followed by music performances in the evenings. There is no entry fee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seventh and most recent edition of the Auroville Film Festival was held online in 2022. It is slated to return to its in-person format in 2024.
