The Majuli Music Festival (MMF) is an annual not-for-profit music festival staged in the picturesque island of Majuli in Assam. It was launched in 2019 by the Majuli Music Festival Foundation<\/a>, held again in 2021 and hosts over 30 artists from across India. On the bill previous year were singers Bishrut Saikia, Doctor Lincoln, Joi Barua, Lucky Ali, Nilotpal Bora, Salman Elahi and Trishna Gurung, the duo O Daapun, and the bands Avora Records, Jutimala and the Tai Folks, Madhouse Mongrels, Motherjane, Naalayak, The Midnight Taxi and The Sleeping Satellite. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Majuli Music Festival, in addition to watching the performances, attendees can sample tribal cuisine and wine, camp under the stars, partake in\u00a0birding, fishing and boating,\u00a0get a glimpse into the way of life at the village and visit the Sri Sri Samaguri Satra to learn about the mask making tradition of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\u00a0Majuli, flood and soil erosion during the monsoon has made the lives of farmers vulnerable. With this in mind, the festival<\/a> is designed keeping sustainability at its core. The stages and decor are made with locally-sourced bamboo from the village and the installations are created using recycled materials.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming edition of the festival will be held between 21 and 24 November 2023.

attention to Majuli – the largest riverine island in the world that is disappearing!<br \/>\n\u2022 Preserving and promoting Majuli\u2019s rich cultural heritage by way of offering curated exposure visits\/homestay experiences to the audiences and bring attention to revisit the UNESCO status for the island.<br \/>\n\u2022 Promoting and supporting local livelihoods and artists, especially the youth by injecting over INR 30 Lakhs into Majuli\u2019s local economy each year. Under its initiative\u2014the “Majuli School of Music”\u2014 the festival will offer a platform to budding young musicians.<br \/>\n\u2022 It is a “Zero-Waste” festival. All resources other than sound\/light are locally-sourced. The venue is community owned; the infrastructure of the venue is all bamboo-based; earthen pots, woven banners\/clothes, food\/drinks etc are all from the community itself.<br \/>\n\u2022 70+ youth volunteers lead the festival. Almost every household capable of contributing, comes forward and contributes to the festival.
