Organised by the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP)<\/a>, Beyond Theory: Mapping Feminist Practices in the Contemporary<\/em> was the inaugural edition of a three-year-long exhibition and conference. The exhibition themed “VISIBLE\/INVISIBLE: Representation of Women in Art through the MAP Collection”, drew ideas from the various thematic threads of the museum collection and highlighted questions and frameworks to broaden the arguments within feminist discourse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition showcased 130 artworks divided across four sections: Goddess and Mortal, Sexuality and Desire, Power and Violence and Struggle and Resistance. By expanding on the dialectics of the exhibition, the conference centred around what constitutes feminist practice in the contemporary milieu. The conference included panel discussions, artists’ presentations, conversations and a performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural edition of Beyond Theory: Mapping Feminist Practices in the Contemporary<\/em> challenged prevalent ideas, formed new networks and presented the convening as a space to find common ground. The festival was held between 24 and 25 March<\/a> at the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), Bengaluru in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
