Dariyapur, a hub in Purba Bardhaman district, is celebrated for its unique Dokra craft, an ancient non-ferrous metal casting technique that has earned the Geographical Indication (GI) certification in 2018. Metal crafters settled in Dariyapur about 120 years ago, elevating Dokra from a household craft to a globally admired art form known for its simple yet rustic appeal. Dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization, Dokra is one of the earliest techniques of non-ferrous metal casting. This ancient lost-wax method yields metal artifacts renowned for their captivating folk patterns and primitive simplicity. Each piece is created with a unique mold used only once, resulting in a distinctive antique finish that highlights the charm and individuality of every artifact.

Dariyapur is hosting a Dokra Mela from 25 to 27 October 2024 where the visitors can watch live Dokra metal casting demonstrations, interact with skilled artisans, and browse a variety of Dokra items, from functional pieces to decorative art. The local folk art museum offers a rare glimpse into antique Dokra artifacts.

Check out more arts and crafts festivals here.

[11,4,9,7,39
377,376
30,29
430

1263
1044
746
279

338

post-14199","festival","type-festival","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","genres-arts-crafts","genres-dance","genres-folk-arts","genres-heritage","genres-music","facilities-eco-friendly","facilities-family-friendly","senses-hearing","senses-sight","locations-west-bengal","hash_tags-dariyapurdokramela","handpicked_collections-family-friendly","language-bengali","months-april","hosting_type-in-person

Dariyapur Dokra Mela - Festivals From India

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/","url":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/","name":"Dariyapur Dokra Mela - Festivals From India","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/#primaryimage"},"image":{"@id":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/#primaryimage"},"thumbnailUrl":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair.-Photo-New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair-19.png","datePublished":"2023-04-13T13:27:34+00:00","dateModified":"2024-10-11T08:11:22+00:00","description":"Dariyapur Dokra Mela is an annual festival celebrating the heritage of the indigenous Dokra craft of Bengal.","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/"]}]},{"@type":"ImageObject","inLanguage":"en-US","@id":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/festival/dariyapur-dokra-mela/#primaryimage","url":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair.-Photo-New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair-19.png","contentUrl":"https://www.festivalsfromindia.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair.-Photo-New-Delhi-World-Book-Fair-19.png","width":1440,"height":650,"caption":"Dariyapur Dokra Mela.
