POT Maya, held in the village Naya in Pingla, which is part of the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, is a festival that showcases the works of Patuas or scroll painters. The village is home to more than 250 Patuas who specialise in the traditional folk form of visual storytelling called Patachitra, the Bengal style of which was accredited with a Geographical Indication tag in 2018.<\/p>\n
Started in 2010, POT Maya is an annual three-day art extravaganza during which the entire village transforms into a living museum and the entrance of every house turns into an exhibition space. Here, visitors can view works; buy them directly from their creators; participate in workshops where they can try their hand at making natural colours and painting their own story; and take in traditional folk performances.<\/p>\n\n\n
