Muhaan, named after the Nepali word for \u201csource\u201d, is a social enterprise from Kalimpong working to develop sustainable community tourism models in the region\u2019s villages. Its aim is to provide eco-friendly and alternative livelihoods to residents of remote villages, an objective it tries to achieve by promoting \u201cunique assets of the rural ecosystem\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formed in 2021, Muhaan curates “experiential and educational tourism activities throughout the year”. Some of their activities include the paddy plantation festival known as “Asar Pandhra”, celebrated in June with the communities of Parengtar, an educational programme aimed at providing a deeper understanding of forest communities living in the fringes of national parks known as “Living with the Forests”, and an “experiential learning programme aimed at school children which combines permaculture and community knowledge into a holistic learning framework” known as “The Budding Roots Project”. Muhaan also organises the Kholey Dai Festival<\/a> in December since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
