The Baul Fakiri Utsav, launched in 2010, is a three-day festival that celebrates the centuries-old tradition of Baul music—a spiritual and philosophical folk form that has long resonated across Bengal. The festival honours the Bauls and Fakirs of West Bengal, with around 150–200 musicians gathering each year to perform from dawn to dusk at the serene Bannabagram Baul Ashram in Ausgram, Purba Bardhaman district.
During the day, artists perform informally at akhras (intimate spaces for music and reflection), while the evenings feature stage performances by leading exponents of the Baul tradition.
The festival concludes with the ‘milan’—a symbolic ritual celebrating the union of the individual and the universal soul, expressed through song and embraced in spirit. Organised by banglanatak dot com, the festival not only preserves Bengal’s intangible cultural heritage but also supports local livelihoods through art and craft exhibitions, including Kantha embroidery and showcases of Chadar Badar tribal puppetry.
The next edition will be held from 21–23 November 2025, bringing together communities, travellers, and seekers to experience Bengal’s living spiritual heritage through music, art, and self-discovery.
