Desi Cultures is an annual fermentation festival-conference exploring how the Indian subcontinent ferments.
We love our kombuchas, kefirs, and kimchis — but we also love our kanjis, kachampullis, kaladis, handias, kinemas, and countless fermenting traditions that shape everyday life across the subcontinent. Rooted in everyday practices yet constantly evolving across disciplines, regions, and communities.
The platform brings together people who make, study, document, experiment with, or simply love fermented foods and cultures. Together, our goal is not just preserving what exists, but asking what fermentation from this region can contribute to the future of food and culture globally.
