• Digital Pride Festival
    11 Jun 2021  to  27 Jun 2021

The Digital Pride Festival, which was started in 2020, “harnesses the potential of digital spaces with the aim to create fresh art and encourage skill building”. With a mission to mainstream conversations on LGBTQIA+ rights, the festival has curated dialogues around advocacy through art, pleasure, healing and mental well-being, and showcased genre-bending performances celebrating queer self-expressions. The events, which have ranged from film screenings to dance, music and theatre performances, have also included masterclasses and workshops equipping young creators with the tools to share their stories and amplify their voices.

Artist and educators Durga Gawde and Kareem Khubchandani, dancer Raheem Mir, LGBTQIA+ choir Rainbow Voices, photographer Roshini Kumar, filmmaker Shiva Raichandani and theatre writer-director Vikram Phukan are among the performers and speakers who have been part of the Digital Pride Festival so far.

Past editions of the Digital Pride Festival in 2020 and 2021 have been staged virtually, while the 2022 edition comprised both online events and in-person pop-ups.

    The Queer Muslim Project
About The Queer Muslim Project Delhi-based The Queer Muslim Project is one of South Asia’s largest virtual networks of queer, Muslim and allied individuals, with a growing global community of over 35,000 people. The Queer Muslim Project, which was started in 2017, uses digital advocacy, storytelling and visual arts to create avenues for young people from under-served communities to express themselves, build community and forge creative collaborations. It aims to visibilise the diversity of queer experiences in South Asia and to counter intentional misrepresentation and socially-reinforced stereotypes. Its list of digital publications includes Safe and Strong: An LGBTQIA+ Guide to Facebook and Instagram, Queer Muslim Futures: A Collection of Visions, Utopias and Dreams and online newspaper thequeermuslim.com. Among its current programmes are an India-UK Poetry Exchange in partnership with the British Council, BBC Contains Strong Language and Verve Poetry Press. In 2022, it won the Cosmopolitan India Blogger Awards for LGBTQIA+ Voice of the Year. See the complete list of festival organisers here.
