The Hummingbird International Film Festival, launched in 2021, is a platform for independent short films from across the world. Past editions of the festival have screened films ranging from fiction and documentary to animation and video art, as well as LGBTQIA+ centric cinema. The festival has given out awards for the categories of Best Cinematography and Best Direction.
A total of 90 films from 35 countries have been screened at the inaugural 2021 edition of the festival. They have included such award-winning and acclaimed titles as Censor Of Dreams (France), I Am Afraid To Forget Your Face (Egypt, France), In The Shadow Of The Pines (Canada), Kalsubai (India), Swingin’ (Taiwan) and Tala’vision (Germany and Jordan). Talks on subjects such as Women from Cinema’s Backstage and LGBTQ Narratives and Notions were streamed online during the festival. Filmmakers Debashis Sen Sharma, Shameem Akhtar and Sridhar Rangayan were among those who were part of the event.
The second edition of the festival held in partnership with Alliance Francaise in October 2022, officially selected 50+ films in exclusive categories including Fiction, LGBTQ+, Animation, Documentary, Video Art, and Human Rights. The festival screened the film Nauha at the opening, which was officially selected at La Cinef of the Cannes Film Festival, 2022. Hummingbird 2022 ended with the Clermont Ferrand Special Jury award-winning closing film “La Traction Des Poles” curated by Alliance Française.
The upcoming third edition of the festival will be held between 07 and 09 December 2023.
