The annual IHC Theatre Festival, launched in 2002, brings audiences an eclectic mix of classics, translations, adaptations and original devised scripts that showcase significant strands of theatre practice from across India. Around ten productions are staged at the event every year. In addition to the performances, there are film screenings, talks and workshops.
Past editions of the festival have included the staging of plays such as Salesman Ramlal (2009) by Platform, The God of Carnage (2015) by QTP, The Gentlemen’s Club AKA Tape (2016) by Patchwork Ensemble, No Rest In The Kingdom (2017) by Sandbox Collective, Khwaab-Sa (2017) by The Company Theatre, Bhagi Hui Ladkiyan (2018) by Aagaaz Theatre Trust and Dekh Behen (2018) by Akvarious Productions among others.
After taking a break in 2021 owing to the pandemic, the IHC Theatre Festival returned in 2022 with ten productions. The line-up at the festival ranged from solo performances to large-scale productions, for all ages. On the bill for the 2022 edition were Patchwork Ensemble’s Shikaar, The Company Theatre’s Aaeen, Akvarious Productions’ What Planet Are You On?, Samanvay Dance Company’s Raavana - In Ten Minds, Mandali Talkies’ Mahanagar Ke Jugnu, Fats TheArts’ Strictly Unconventional, The Company’s Trunk Tales, Adishakti’s Bhoomi, Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust’s Wool Symphony and the Ujaagar Dramatic Association’s Hunkaro.
Other highlights included an interview with Adil Hussain and workshops on kalaripayattu (by dancer Harshal Vyas) and body exercises and breathing technique for theatre practitioners (by Adishakti’s artistic director Vinay Kumar).
