The inaugural edition of the Jutti and Kasidakari Festival in 2022, was curated to showcase the intricate craftsmanship of artists in Patodi village in the Barmer district of western Rajasthan.
Juttis are a unique kind of handmade leather footwear from Rajasthan. The juttis, made by male craftsmen, are subsequently adorned with intricate kasidakari embroidery work by women. Additionally, they make a range of fashion and lifestyle accessories such as bags, pouches and covers. Patodi is home to over 200 jutti and kasidakari artists, making it the hub of the craft form. The alleys of the village are dotted with the open workspaces of the artists, giving it the look and feel of a living museum.
Visitors who attended the Jutti and Kasidakari Festival gained knowledge of the history and process of jutti making and kasida weaving, and had the opportunity to buy the products directly from the makers. They also got to enjoy Rajasthani folk music performances by artists from the Langa community, on the second day of the event.
