From 9–11 October, Guneipada village in Lamtaput, Koraput, will host a living heritage celebration under Contact Base’s Roots to Prosperity initiative. Set within the forested hills and valleys of the Eastern Ghats, Lamtaput is a landscape where community life, traditional knowledge, art and nature remain closely connected.
The experience will bring visitors closer to the communities and practitioners who continue to keep these traditions alive. Through traditional performances, craft experiences and interactions with artists and knowledge holders, the festival will offer an opportunity to experience the village not simply as a festival venue, but as a cultural space where heritage is practised, shared and passed on.
Roots to Prosperity recognises traditional art and craft skills as community assets that can strengthen cultural identity while creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Through community engagement, capacity building, direct market access and ICH-based tourism, the initiative works to increase visibility for practitioners and create greater value around the cultural knowledge held within communities.
The Guneipada experience is therefore an invitation to discover Lamtaput through its people, traditions and landscape—and to understand how living heritage can contribute to stronger cultural identity, community ownership and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
