The multi-city Ladies First Street Art festival, launched in 2019, promotes women street artists, who remain under-represented in the field. Organised by Mumbai-based graffiti artist collective Wicked Broz, Ladies First Street Art festival aims to “highlight the work of female street artists, bring more women to the streets in India while creating public assets that put the country on the global map.”
At the flagship edition in Mumbai, Ladies First has covered over 10,000 square feet of walls in the Marol Arts Village, all of them adorned by works by women. Talks, workshops, film screenings and performances around and of street art as well as dance and hip-hop, which are synonymous with global street art culture, are part of the festival every year.
Anpu Varkey, Avantika Mathur and Lena McCarthy were among the artists who participated in the 2021 edition, which was simultaneously held in Mumbai, Gurugram and Dehradun. Although audience participation was restricted during this instalment on account of the pandemic, some of the activities were streamed live on Instagram.
The fourth edition was held between 11 and 12 March at Bharat Van in Mumbai, and on 19 March at Rangbhoomi in Gurugram. Volunteering sessions were held between 7 to 9 March in Goa and on 25 and 26 March in Dehradun, where guests and visitors got an opportunity to paint on walls along with the artists. The artist line-up at the festival included illustrator and artist Jisha Madai, multi-disciplinary artist and rapper Ashwini Hiremath, Kesar Khinvasara, Avantika Mathur, Sneha Chakraborty and Minakshi Khati. The highlights included pop-up exhibits and street art workshops in Mumbai and Gurugram. Select artists also participated in the all-women pop-up exhibition.

How to Reach Mumbai
1. By Air: Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, formerly known as Sahar International Airport, is the primary international airport serving the Mumbai Metropolitan Area. It is situated about 30 km from CST Station. The domestic airport is in Vile Parle East. Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji has two terminals. Terminal 1 or the domestic terminal used to be the old airport called Santacruz Airport, and some locals still refer to it by this name. Terminal 2 or the international terminal replaced the old terminal 2, formerly known as the Sahar Airport. The Santa Cruz Domestic Airport is about 4.5 km from the international airport. There are regular direct flights to Mumbai easily available from other airports. Buses and cabs are easily available from the airport to reach desired destinations.

2. By Rail: Mumbai is very well connected to rest of India by train. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is the most popular station in Mumbai. Trains to Mumbai are available from all major railway stations in India. Some important Mumbai trains to note are the Mumbai Rajdhani, Mumbai Duronto and the Konkan-Kanya Express.
3. By Road: Mumbai is well-connected with national highways and expressways. Getting to Mumbai by bus is the most economical for individual tourists. Government-run, as well as private buses, operate daily services. Travelling to Mumbai by car is a common choice made by travellers, and hailing a cab or hiring a private car is an efficient way of exploring the city.

How To Reach Gurugram
1. By Air: Gurugram has no airport. The nearest international airport is the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, around 28 km away. The airport is connected to almost all cities in India and major cities across the globe.

2. By Rail: NH 8 and the Dwarka Expressway, along with their branches, constitute the network of roadways connecting Gurugram to adjoining cities like Delhi, Chandigarh and Mumbai. Several buses and cabs are available from nearby cities to Gurugram.
3. By Road: Gurugram has a small railway station that connects some major cities via few trains. The nearest railway junctions are Nizamuddin Railway Station and New Delhi Railway Station. The Indian Railways offers many express trains to reach these stations from other parts of India.

How to Reach Goa
1. By Air: Goa’s Dabolim Airport handles both domestic and international flights. Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights coming into Goa from major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Lucknow, Kolkata and Indore. All Indian carriers have regular flights operating to Goa. Once you get out of the airport, you can hire a taxi or arrange for a pick up to your destination. The airport is around 26 km from Panaji.

2. By Rail: There are two main train stations in Goa, Madgaon and Vasco-da-Gama. From New Delhi, you can catch the Goa Express to Vasco-da-Gama, and from Mumbai, you can take the Matsyagandha Express or the Konkan Kanya Express, which will drop you at Madgaon. Goa enjoys extensive rail connectivity with the rest of the country. The route is a soothing journey that takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Western Ghats.
3. By Road: Two major highways take you into Goa. If you’re travelling to Goa from Mumbai or Bengaluru, you will have to follow the NH 4. It is the most preferred way into Goa as it is wide and well-maintained. The NH 17 is the shortest route from Mangalore. The drive to Goa is a scenic route, especially during the monsoon. You can also catch a bus from Mumbai, Pune or Bengaluru. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) run regular buses to Goa.

How to Reach Dehradun
1. By Air: Several airlines run regular flights to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport, which is located 20 km away from the city centre. You can hire a taxi from the airport to reach the city.
2. By Rail: Dehradun is connected to Delhi, Lucknow, Allahabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ujjain, Chennai and Varanasi by trains such as the Shatabdi Express, Jan Shatabdi Express, Dehradun AC Express, Doon Express, Bandra Express and Amritsar-Dehradun Express among others. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 2 km away from the city centre.
3. By Road: Dehradun is well connected to most cities such as Delhi, Shimla, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Agra and Mussoorie by Volvo, deluxe, semi-deluxe and Uttarakhand State Transport buses. These buses arrive and depart from the Dehradun Inter State Bus Terminal near Clement Town. Buses depart from here every 15 minutes to one hour. Other bus terminals in Dehradun are the Mussoorie Bus Station, located at the Dehradun Railway Station, which has regular bus services to Mussoorie and other nearby cities. Another interstate bus terminal in Dehradun is the Delhi Bus Stand on Gandhi Road. A popular tourist destination, Dehradun has a strong road network, which makes for a pleasant driving experience. Dehradun is well connected by NH 58 and 72 to cities like Delhi (a four-hour drive) and Chandigarh (167 km, an almost three-hour drive), Haridwar and Rishikesh.
