The Nashik Living Heritage Festival invites visitors into the cultural landscapes of the northern Western Ghats, where forests, farms and villages are closely woven into the lives and traditions of Adivasi communities. The festival offers a window into the living heritage of communities including the Warli, Kokna and Thakar, whose music, dance, rituals and traditional knowledge remain part of everyday cultural life.
Experience traditions such as Pawri, a wind instrument associated with harvest celebrations, Thakar Nritya, performed to mark the arrival of the monsoon, and Dera Geet, a wedding singing tradition. Other performances including Bagh Pawri, Dongri Dev Nritya and Madal Nritya bring together music, movement, ritual and stories rooted in the forests and hills.
Supported by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, the festival goes beyond performances to create meaningful encounters with local communities and their heritage. Through immersive experiences, it explores the relationship between culture, nature and everyday life while encouraging respectful and responsible engagement with Nashik’s living traditions.
