Set amidst the forests, hills and villages of Palghar, the Living Heritage Festival celebrates the rich cultural traditions of the region’s Tribal communities, including the Warli, Kokna and Thakar communities. The festival brings together music, dance, traditional theatre, storytelling and community practices that remain closely connected to nature, seasons and everyday life.
Visitors can experience the vibrant Tarpa dance, where the sound of the traditional wind instrument brings communities together in a collective circle of movement and celebration. The festival also showcases Bohada, a traditional masked ritual theatre combining songa mask-making, music, dance and storytelling.
More than a cultural showcase, the festival offers an opportunity to meet local artists and communities, experience their living traditions and discover the deep connection between people, place and nature. The initiative, supported by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, promotes experiential tourism rooted in respect for local culture and community life.
