Rhythms of Living Heritage is a festival celebrating the folk and tribal dance traditions of Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Maharashtra. Through performances, exhibitions and visual documentation, the festival brings together artistic practices and cultural knowledge passed down through generations.
The performance programme features Mayurbhanj Chhau from Odisha, Seraikela Chhau from Jharkhand, Purulia Chhau from West Bengal, and Thakar Dance, Dhol Pawri and Madal Nritya from Maharashtra. Each tradition reflects distinct community histories, artistic practices and relationships with the natural environment.
Alongside the performances, the festival presents an exhibition of handcrafted masks and a photography exhibition documenting these traditions and their cultural contexts. By bringing folk and tribal artists into conversation with new audiences, cultural institutions and potential collaborators, Rhythms of Living Heritage seeks to increase the visibility of traditional practitioners and support the continued transmission of India's intangible cultural heritage.
