    Sandscape
    8 Feb 2020  to  10 Feb 2020

Launched in 2017, Sandscape is a music festival that takes place across the city of Jaisalmer and the dunes surrounding the villages of Khuri and Barna. It features Indian and international electronic and folk music acts whose sets are supported by 3D visual mapping and body performances. Electronic music DJs and producers Ma Faiza and Mashter and Rajasthani folk singers Kutle Khan and Mame Khan are among the artists to have played Sandscape in previous years.

The event, which grew out of the ongoing Sandscape artist residency, has led to the emergence of a number of long-term programmes. These include Echoes From The Desert, which archives recordings of the music of the Manganiyar and Kalbelia communities; Tales From The Desert, which documents the Thar desert and neighbouring villages and cities through photos and video; the Electric Desert Lab, which studies local electricity needs; and the Sandscape conference, which features panel discussions with experts and artists.

The festival, which did not take place in 2021 and 2022 owing to the pandemic, is set to return for its fifth edition in 2023.

    How To Get There

    How to Reach Jaisalmer

    1. By Air: Jaisalmer is not directly connected by air with any part of India. Jodhpur Airport, located about 300 km away from Jaisalmer, is the nearest airport to the desert land. The airport connects Rajasthan with all major Indian cities. From Jodhpur Airport, tourists can hire cabs to reach Jaisalmer.

    2. By Rail: Jaisalmer is served by both broad gauge and metre gauge railway tracks. Jaisalmer can be reached through direct trains from Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur. The luxury train ‘Palace on Wheels’ is also available. Upon reaching the station, visitors can avail of auto rickshaws and private taxis to reach their destinations at nominal fares.

    3. By Road: Jaisalmer has a well-maintained network of roadways. Deluxe and ordinary buses of Rajasthan Roadways and many private operators connect Jaisalmer with Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bikaner, Barmer, Mount Abu, Ahemdabad etc.

How to reach Khuri from Jaisalmer:

    1. By Road: The Khuri Sand Dunes are located at a distance of 40 km from Jaisalmer. You can choose to drive down the road connecting Jaisalmer and Khuri. If you don’t have your own vehicle, you can easily hire a cab or take a private bus to reach the dunes. You can find buses plying in regular intervals from Jaisalmer to Khuri. However, you should make sure that you reach the dunes before sunset if you do not want to miss the mesmerising sunset behind the sandhills. There is no direct access to railways from Khuri.
