    The Godna Project
    8 Oct 2022  to  9 Oct 2022

A two-day festival bringing together indigenous tattoo artists from across India, The Godna Project aims to document and discuss the significance of the rapidly disappearing art of hand poke or godna tattoo making. It aims to present and call for the preservation of traditional tattoo practices in order to raise awareness and appreciation among the general public for this rich cultural heritage.

The festival is an opportunity for urban Indians to learn about and experience the nation’s ancient tattoo practices directly from the practitioners. The inaugural edition of the festival in 2022 featured tattoo stalls, talks, demonstrations, workshops and a photo exhibition.

Five artists represented different tattoo traditions at the festival-- Mangla Bai and Hanshi Bai showcased those of the Baiga and Gond tribes of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh respectively. Mo Naga spotlighted those of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. Lakhami and Kevala Nag illustrated those of the Ojha Tribe in Bastar, Chhattisgarh; and S. Janaki those of the Kurumba tribe of Ooty in Tamil Nadu.
