Organised by Angus Montgomery Arts, the subcontinent’s leading platform for modern and contemporary art, India Art Fair is a marquee event that brings artists, institutions, connoisseurs and collectors together at an annual pilgrimage to India’s capital city. Launched in 2008, the annual fair celebrates modern-day South Asia, presenting a blend of cutting-edge contemporary visual art with modern masters and vernacular artistic traditions. India Art Fair works with galleries, private foundations and arts charities, artists’ collectives and national museums, with the aim of placing the voice of the art and artist at the core.
Supporting arts education and professional development opportunities is among the missions of the fair, which runs a year-round programme of events aiming to increase audiences for the arts within India. Artists and art lovers alike are drawn to India Art Fair as it offers them numerous opportunities to network and discover new art.
The 14th and most recent edition of the festival in 2023 showcased ambitious presentations featuring exceptional works by artists from South Asia as well as several international artists. The main "Galleries" section showcased outstanding presentations by leading regional and international galleries; the "Focus" section highlighted solo presentations curated by participating galleries, putting a strong emphasis on painters from distinguished names such as Jayashree Chakravarty; "The Studio" housed an arresting selection of tech-meets-art projects and installations, inviting audiences to explore and experience the power of digital art; the "Platform" section showcased the rich artistic traditions of India through the works of contemporary masters of traditional arts; the "Outdoor Art Project" included thought-provoking sculptural installations by Parag Tandel and others; and the IAF Parallel programme provided a unique multi-layered experience for visitors to celebrate the art scene of New Delhi.
