    Wooden Doll Mela
    15 Apr 2023  to  16 Apr 2023

Rural artists from Natungram, Purba Bardhaman district, took centre stage at the Wooden Doll Mela, held between 15 and 16 April 2023 at Natungram, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, showcasing their skill in carving wooden dolls from a single piece of wood. The Wooden Doll Mela was part of the Rural Craft and Cultural Hubs of West Bengal initiative, which aimed to promote and strengthen the state’s ICH-based craft and performing arts with the support of the Department of MSME&T and UNESCO, and was supported by the District Administration of Purba Bardhaman.

The wooden dolls are designed with motifs based on culture and mythology and are upheld by the time-honoured techniques of master craftsmanship. They are famous for their vibrant colour, intricate design and ethnic style. The traditional designs based on culture and mythology, the richness of ideas, the brilliant combination of pure simplicity, combined with craftsmanship of the artists result in amazing works of art.
