Organised within the framework of the Worldbuilder Festival, Worldbuilder x Heritage Futures is a pioneering initiative powered by Unreal Engine and Epic Games. It explores how heritage can be both inherited and invented, placing new technologies at the centre of cultural imagination.
Launched in 2024, the programme has quickly established itself as a leading platform for interrogating the future of heritage through next-generation creative practices. Bringing together game engines, 3D scanning, immersive storytelling, speculative design, and extended reality, Worldbuilder x Heritage Futures treats worldbuilding not as play but as a civic and cultural act.
The initiative poses urgent questions: in a time when memory is mutable, architecture impermanent, and archives often invisible, what kind of heritage are we leaving behind? And how might technology allow us to preserve not only the past but also empathy, imagination, and collective memory?
The first edition takes place in Delhi in August 2025, before travelling to Ahmedabad (CEPT), Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai. Each edition seeks to deepen the conversation around heritage as a living, future-facing practice, situating India as a hub for experimentation at the intersection of culture and technology.
