Muhaan is a non-profit collective based in Kalimpong, working at the intersection of community, conservation, and culture across the Eastern Himalayas. Rooted in the idea of conserving biocultural diversity, Muhaan works to protect both natural ecosystems and the knowledge, practices, and identities tied to them through community-based tourism models. Our collective brings together homestay owners, guides, filmmakers, writers, architects, designers, artists, and entrepreneurs—all united by a shared commitment to meaningful, place-based tourism. Working with rural and Indigenous communities across the Eastern Himalayas, Muhaan strengthens local ownership, sustainable livelihoods, and cultural resilience. Through initiatives in training, cultural mapping, experiential learning, and network building, we aim to empower communities to become long-term custodians of their heritage and environment.
