About Rekhta Foundation
Rekhta Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation headquartered in India, is working for the preservation and promotion of the Urdu language, literature, and culture since 2013. The foundation is implementing innovative and tech-driven ways to succeed in its mission of democratising access by creating digital platforms comprising the vast treasure of Urdu, Hindi, and Sufi literature, preservation through digitisation of rare books & manuscripts collected from libraries and private collections across the country, Learning Urdu via classroom and online courses and Outreach by taking language to masses through numerous online and offline activities.
As one of its various initiatives, the foundation organises Jashn-e-Rekhta – an annual cultural festival celebrating Urdu. The three-day event has become the world’s largest gathering of its kind with over a hundred thousand footfalls to celebrate the spirit of Urdu. The festival presents a multi-dimensional experience, including ghazals, Sufi, qawwali, dastaangoi, panel discussions, poetry symposiums, recitations, celebrity conversations, book exhibition, calligraphy, food festival & and a lot more. The foundation’s other major initiatives include a content repository of Urdu, Hindi & Sufism (Rekhta.org, Hindwi.org and Sufinama.org), RekhtaDictionary.com- Trilingual Dictionary for Urdu words, preservation & digitisation (Rekhta E-Books), Urdu education (aamozish.com), publishing (RekhtaBooks.com), cultural promotion (Jashn-e-Rekhta, Rang-e-Rekhta, Shaam-e-Rekhta), and Rekhta Productions (state-of-the-art Rekhta Studio).
