

SAMT, the driving force behind Nabanna Folk Art and Craft Fair, was founded in 1985 by late Dr. Sadhan C. Dutt, Founder Chairman, DC Group of Companies in memory of his parents. The Trust promotes art, handicrafts, early childhood education and healthcare. It has organised a number of design development workshops, cluster development programmes and skill upgradation trainings in association with Office of The Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, GoI and Department of Self Help Group & Self Employment, GoWB. These involved crafts like kantha stitch, jute and tailoring for women, terracotta, leather, glazed pottery, dhokra, cane and bamboo, enameling, plaster mould making for the artisans of Bengal, teacher’s training and outreach programmes for school children. It facilitated marketing initiatives for a wider reach of these products. It is building a two-storied, 12500 sq. ft. Art & Craft Museum. The trust patronizes Montessori schools in the brand name of Mongrace in Kolkata, New Town, Kharagpur and Santiniketan. Two of its units run free schools in the afternoon. The Trust has also created a Chair for Environmental Studies at the Benaras Hindu University.
