Jodhpur Folk and Handicrafts Festival

Jodhpur Folk and Handicrafts Festival

The first edition of Jodhpur Folk and Handicrafts Festival was held in Jodhpur’s Chopasani village in 2022. Organised as part of a collaborative initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan and UNESCO to strengthen the intangible cultural heritage of western Rajasthan, the festival highlighted folk arts and crafts from the region, showcased Kalbelia dance performances, the folk music of the Langa and Manganiyar communities, the string puppetry of Jaisalmer and durrie weaving.

Attendees were able to watch performances by, interact with, and learn about the history of the art forms from dancers Asha Sapera and Kalunath Kalbelia, musicians Asin Khan and Kasam Khan, and puppeteers Mukesh Bhatt and Rakesh Bhatt. They could also browse and buy handwoven rugs and other items by durrie makers.
