About Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts

The Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts is a project of the Attakkalari Public Charitable Trust of Contemporary Performing Arts. Attakkalari was formed in 1992 by artists from different disciplines to help create contexts for contemporary movement arts. The centre’s objective is to demystify the artform and make it accessible to all sections of society. It has facilitated the development of an enhanced and extensive programme that includes national and international platforms for exchange, performance and digital art development.
The organisation has also contributed to the fields of research and documentation, and the creation of new performance works by the Attakkalari Repertory; a diploma in movement arts and mixed media, different festivals, and education and other outreach programmes. Additionally, Attakkalari collaborates with video and digital artists, composers, musicians and choreographers and functions as a resource centre for upcoming artists from other parts of the world interested in Indian culture, aesthetics and movement idioms.
